The aftermarket scene for the BMW M5 is still in its early stages, but intake upgrades are already becoming one of the most popular first modifications for BMW’s new hybrid-powered super saloon.
One of the systems getting the most attention is the Ramair Filters G90 M5 Carbon Fibre Intake Kit — a full carbon induction setup designed specifically for the S68-powered G90 platform. According to Ramair, the kit is built for 2024-onward G90 M5 models and includes carbon fibre heat shields, oversized carbon intake pipes, silicone couplers, and dual Proram filters.
Why G90 M5 Owners Are Looking at Intake Mods
The new G90 M5 is a very different car compared to previous generations. BMW has combined a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 with plug-in hybrid technology, creating an M5 that delivers massive power but also significantly more weight and refinement than older models.
Because of that, many owners aren’t immediately chasing huge horsepower gains. Instead, the focus has shifted toward modifications that improve the car’s character and driving feel.

The standard G90 M5 is extremely refined from factory. Some drivers appreciate that, while others feel it removes some of the rawness expected from a twin-turbo V8 performance car.

The S68 engine already flows extremely well in factory form, so intake upgrades alone are unlikely to produce dramatic power increases on a completely standard car.
Where they become more beneficial is when combined with:
- ECU tuning
- Exhaust upgrades
- Downpipes
- Future hybrid turbo setups
Even without major tuning, reducing intake restriction can still improve throttle response and overall responsiveness.
Most owners considering a carbon intake for the G90 are usually buying it for:
- Better sound
- Sharper response
- Engine bay aesthetics
- OEM-style appearance
Rather than expecting massive dyno gains.
The G90 Aftermarket Is Still Developing
Because the G90 platform is so new, there are still relatively few dedicated performance parts available compared to older BMW M platforms like the F90.
That makes purpose-built products more important. Enthusiasts are generally avoiding generic universal intake setups and instead looking for systems specifically engineered around the G90 chassis and S68 engine layout.
Early discussions within the BMW community already show intake systems becoming a common modification alongside exhaust upgrades, lowering springs, and carbon styling parts.
As more tuning companies begin developing products for the platform, intake upgrades will likely remain one of the most common starting points for G90 owners looking to add more character to the car.
