G42 M240i Now Equipped with Bilstein EVO T1 Coilovers

There’s a point in every build where the factory suspension just isn’t enough anymore. The BMW G42 M240i is a seriously capable car out of the box—xDrive traction, a punchy B58, and a surprisingly playful chassis—but once you start pushing it harder, the limits show up quickly. That’s exactly where this project began.

Why the Bilstein EVO T1?

The goal wasn’t to build a stripped-out track weapon. It needed to stay usable on UK roads—uneven surfaces, long drives, and all—while sharpening the car’s handling enough to justify the upgrade.

The Bilstein EVO T1 kit sits right in that sweet spot. It’s positioned as a “track performance” system, but not to the extreme of motorsport-focused setups. What makes it stand out is its balance:

  • Dual-adjustable damping (bump + rebound)
  • Significant ride height adjustability
  • Designed to retain daily drivability while improving handling

In other words: proper upgrade territory without ruining the car.

Installation & First Impressions

Installation on the G42 platform is relatively straightforward if you’ve worked on modern BMWs before, but there’s one catch—cars with adaptive suspension need coding out or bypass modules. That’s worth planning ahead before you even pick up a spanner.

Once fitted and dialled to a conservative drop, the visual change alone transforms the car. The factory ride height always leaves the M240i looking slightly “on stilts”—the EVO T1 fixes that instantly. Lower, more planted, and finally proportioned the way the chassis deserves.

But looks aren’t why you spend this kind of money.

On the Road: The Real Transformation

The first drive tells you everything.

Where the stock suspension feels slightly floaty when pushed, the EVO T1 setup tightens the car up dramatically. Turn-in becomes sharper, mid-corner stability improves, and there’s far less of that hesitant weight transfer you get from the OEM setup.

The biggest difference, though, is confidence.

  • Front-end grip feels more predictable
  • Body roll is significantly reduced
  • Power can be deployed earlier on corner exit

It doesn’t suddenly turn the car into a GT4 race machine—but it removes that soft edge BMW builds in for comfort.

And surprisingly, it doesn’t punish you for it.

Even on rougher B-roads, the ride remains controlled rather than harsh. That’s where the EVO T1 really earns its place: it’s firm, yes—but composed, not crashy.

Dialling It In

This is where the project aspect really comes alive.

The dual-click adjustment system gives you multiple steps of damping control, letting you fine-tune the setup depending on how you use the car. That means:

  • Softer settings for daily driving
  • Stiffer setup for weekend blasts or track days

Finding the right balance takes time. Out of the box, the settings can feel slightly too aggressive for road use—but a few clicks back and the car settles into a really usable sweet spot.

This isn’t a “set it and forget it” mod. It’s something you develop with the car.
